World Maritime Day 2026 is observed on 24 September, highlighting the importance of shipping and the maritime sector to international trade. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has selected “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence” as the World Maritime Day theme for 2026 and 2027. World Maritime Day falls on the final Thursday of September each year.
For the first time, the IMO has set the World Maritime Day theme on a two-year cycle, covering 2026 and 2027. The theme carries three key messages: turning globally agreed rules into day-to-day practice through national legislation and enforcement; powering implementation through capacity-building, training and knowledge sharing; and pursuing consistently safe, secure, efficient and environmentally sound shipping.
The IMO’s 2026 Parallel Event will be hosted in Busan, Republic of Korea, on 26–27 October 2026. The broader campaign is promoted under the hashtags #WorldMaritimeDay and #MaritimePolicytoPractice.
For international manufacturers and B2B buyers, maritime transport is a core part of the supply chain.
